History of the Bay of Russians

The Bay of Russians Russian Bay, or Ambavatory Bay, is a 40-minute speedboat ride from Nosy Be. Its main attraction lies in the fact that it's an excellent anchorage for spending the night in complete safety. It's a vast bay, often a dolphin playground, dotted with beaches and small fishing villages. History tells us that the Russian fleet from Saint Petersburg sheltered in this bay in 1904 for two months before going to confront the Japanese fleet at the Battle of Tsushima, where it was completely annihilated.

Russian Bay, or Ambavatory Bay, is not only a historical testament to the Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 and the Russian contingent that settled in the superb Ambavatory Bay, but it's also a wonderful site with numerous white sand beaches.

Activities

• Several activities will be on offer, starting with a visit to a large, deep bay composed of three coves, where you can finally sleep without driving! For those who love hiking, in the background on the right is an old ruined landing stage used by Russian sailors at the time. A dirt road, never finished, leads to a hotel that remains in its planning stages. You can also go spearfishing for those who know how.
• After this long walk, we enter the heart of the village to savor delicious, typically Malagasy dishes made with fresh produce and carefully prepared under the shade of coconut trees.
