The Baobab Alley is a group of baobab trees that line the dirt road between Morondava and Balai'i Tsiribihina in the western region of Madagascar. The Baobab Alley is one of the most beautiful sites on the Big Island. A true national heritage site, not far from Morondava, is a must-see during a trip to west-central Madagascar. This spectacular complex is one of the most visited attractions in the region. You'll also see baobabs called lovers, which locals believe can bring good luck to couples. The most important species on the site is Adansonia grandidieri, which is, of course, endemic to Madagascar. The sacred baobab stands out among those lining the trail. Locals come to leave offerings and honor their ancestors. According to legend, the gods dislike the baobabs' excessive pride. They decided to plant them upside down, with their roots facing upwards.

Day 3: MORONDAVA – BEKOPAKA - 200 km

Visit: Kirindy Forest

The Kirindy Forest is also home to lush flora. The baobab seems to thrive in these wetlands, as there are three varieties: the reniala, distinguished by its narrow gray trunk, the Bozy (A. rubristipa) with its bottle-shaped trunk and rounded fruits, and the Za (A. za) with its imposing gray trunk and oval fruits. Very enriching guided tours. Drive to Bekopaka on a sandy and bumpy road. Cross the Manambolo Rivers by ferry. At the end of the afternoon, you will arrive at the village of Bekopaka. Kirindy Forest is a true jewel of western Madagascar and a remnant of the primary dry forest. Located approximately 60 km from Morondava, between the Tsiribihina River to the north and the Avenue of the Baobabs to the south, it covers an area of 72,000 hectares. With luck, you'll encounter lemurs and perhaps even a few fossae at the end of the day.
